By fusing the best aspects of the East and the West, Swami Vivekananda University (SVU) seeks to bring Swami Vivekananda's educational vision of life-building and character-making education into reality.He pictured a system of education that combined our nation's rich cultural and spiritual heritage, with its age-old traditions of values like "sacredness of knowledge," "shraddha," "devotion to truth," etc., with modern science, and primarily Western values like scientific temper, rationality of outlook,technological skill,fearless and objective investigation into the nature of the physical world,teamwork,work efficiency,etc.Every programme and course of study at the University bearing Swami Vivekananda's revered name always keeps in mind his emphasis on education that creates men and develops character.

And under the direction of the RERF Trust, all of this was conceptualised in West Bengal.
