Our Founder

The late Shri K J Somaiya established Somaiya Vidyavihar in 1959. He was an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and visionary who was committed to the idea that values-based modern education is essential. This fundamental theme and legacy of Somaiya Vidyavihar has been continued and strengthened by the late Dr. S. K. Somaiya. 

By focusing on both the liberal and professional factors of higher education, Somaiya Vidyavihar seeks to deliver meaningful and applicable education that is steeped in rich Indian culture and legacy as well as anchored in the universal religious philosophies of the globe.

Somaiya Vidyavihar offers educational opportunities to all competent students in this context, so they can learn and share knowledge in order to benefit communities all over the world. We genuinely believe in providing education that educates students on both how to live and how to make a life.

Somaiya Vidyavihar provides experiential learning in all of its educational programmes as a learning centre dedicated to teaching, research, and service to create knowledgeable students who are aware of innovative, challenging possibilities. We expand on our current areas of excellence, such as engineering, biomedical sciences, and professional education, and explore fruitful collaborations with other top organisations.

Proud Heritage

Somaiya Vidyavihar is an institution which is proud of its own heritage, worldwide in the reach of its ideas and universal in its service.

More than 39,000 students attend the 34 institutes that make up Somaiya Vidyavihar, together with 1,500 staff members. Its educational institutions are spread across two main campuses: a 50-acre complex in Vidyavihar and a 28-acre complex in Sion, both of which are situated in the centre of Mumbai, along with a number of smaller campuses spread out across rural Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Gujarat. We currently offer undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral level degrees, diplomas, and certificate programmes. Somaiya Vidyavihar also operates a few independent post-graduate programmes, high schools, and vocational training programmes.

Shri Samir Somaiya, a Cornell University and Harvard alumni is the President of the Somaiya Vidyavihar. Under his stewardship, invaluable direction is provided to all the educational institutes within the campus.
